Can I make it in time for a connecting flight if my plane arrives just 40 mins before?
My flight from Korea to LAX arrives at 9am. Then I have to take another flight to Las Vegas (different airline) at 9:40am. Will i make it in time to the domestic terminal from the international terminal? Where will I have to pass through immigration and customs, in LA or in Las Vegas? What's the best way to save time? I'm so lost.. help!

If its a different airline no way - you have to go through customs and immigration, then claim your luggage and you know how long that takes, then go through security screening again, and the line ups are forever - can you change your flights? You also have to go from International arrivals to domestic departs, different parts of the airport, sometimes different bldgs ! It will probably all take well over an hour, probably two by the time you get through security -- sorry

It would be a minor miracle to make your connecting flight. First you assume you arrive on time. If you do you then have to go through immigartion and customs in lax. If you happen to be the only plane landing at this time you still will have to wait and retrieve your luggage. It does not get sent through. After all this your connecting flight to Las Vegas is probably about ready for takeoff. You still have to get out of the international terminal and check in for your domestic flight. I suggest finding the next flight to Vegas. You really need about two hours to change flights from international to domestic. You can always call the domestic airlines and find out what is the latest you can check in for the flight. Enjoy your flight.

I for one am wishing you luck with this scenario. I have a few years of experience working at SFO and what you have in your hands is a very tough situation. Tough but not impossible. I believe that you will have to go through customs and immigration at LAX. However.. there are certain things that you can do to save time and make sure that you do make it to your connecting flight. 1. Talk to the airline crew (Korea To LAX) and explain to them your situation. They can make sure that you exit the plane as soon as possible and head straight to immigration and customs. 2. Know the lay out of LAX and have a map with you if possible (this can be found online). It helps to know the shortest route from the international terminal to your next airline. 3. Call your connecting flight airline and let them know about your predicament. Boarding gates close 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time but Ive seen some airlines wait a few minutes for a passenger. Sometimes.. All you need to do is ask. 4. Hope that your flight from Korea gets to LAX earlier than scheduled. This is almost always the case with international flights. You just might even end up with some spare time. 5. Make sure that your luggage gets transferred from airline to airline without you waiting for them from the baggage carousel. If I'm not mistaken.. customs can check your luggage even with out you presence. It would really be a time saver if you didn't have any checked in bags. 6. Travel lightly. The less stuff you have with you... the quicker you will be. 7. Never hesitate to ask for assistance from airport /airline employees. Even with the hectic day to day stuff they go through.. most of them are willing to help a stranger. 8. Know your options. If the unthinkable happens and you do miss your flight.. there will always be a next flight. Good luck , pray that your international flight gets to LAX earlier than scheduled and smile... it never hurts.

probably not... your going to have to wait to get your luggage and that may take a while. Unless you beg for them to hold the plane until you get your luggage.

To be honest....NO way to catch another flight to Vegas. in 40 min. It takes at least one hour to get your luggage and go thru immigration in Los Angeles, since this is you entrance in US, unless your original flight goes to Vegas. Even if you don't have to any luggage..you won't have time. Also, did you book a flight from Korea to Las Vegas with connecting flight on the same ticket or two separate tickets?? One from Korea to LAX and another from LAX to LAS??? Always get at least 2 hrs for connecting flight, since it is not the same airline company. You don't say which airline to Vegas...Southwest go every hour, so is USAir, United every hour. Make a change of time for a 12:00PM flight. Just a recommendation
