Generally, your best bet is to go early in Dec or later in Jan, avoiding holidays, as flights are always more expensive around the holidays. If you are 2 months flexible, try searching for flight deals on orbitz or travelocity under the "dates flexible" options. Most importantly, flight night flights "to" and sunday flights "from" vegas are going to be most expensive, so pick your dates to avoid those times.

There are really no cheap flights with the gasoline prices. Check out Southwest or MidWest for the best deals. Your rates usually are lower if you gravel Sunday and return Thursday. Between Thanksgiving and Xmas the rates may be lower or after January/New Years.

Actually, the two weeks before Christmas are the cheapest to come to Vegas - probably because everyone is spending their money on holiday gifts. Try to avoid coming in right before New Years' Eve - it's absurdly expensive. Hotel rooms will be several hundred dollars a night, and the flights will be expensive - if you can even get one in. (I'm going home to New York for Christmas and to fly back to my new home in Vegas was more expensive the closer the date was to NYE.)
